Counseling / Woodshop Teacher
Mr. Jenkins was born in Salt Lake City and grew up in Orem. He attended Orem High School until his Senior year when Timpanogos High School was built. He could not decide which school to attend, Orem High with its Woodshop or Timpanogos with his friends. He was able to attend both, graduating from Timpanogos in 1997. He originally planned to become a carpenter, but was fortunate enough to find the wonderful career path of school Counseling at Utah State University. There he received his Master’s degree in School Counseling and Psychology. He has enjoyed serving teenagers and guiding them in their career paths for over twelve years. This is his seventh year working at Merit Academy. In addition to working as a full-time school Counselor, he now has the privilege of teaching Woodshop. In his free time he builds furniture and other wooden objects, plays the piano by ear, and spends time with his wife, Shirlene, and their seven children.
