Jessica Sitton

Special Education Department Chair at Merit Preparatory Academy

Jessica grew up on the coast of Southern California where she spent her time singing, swimming and exploring the shore. After high school, she moved to Boston and attended Boston University receiving a dual Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and Elementary Education with a minor in Deaf Studies in 2004. She moved back to San Diego and taught for 2 years as a self-contained 3-6th grade classroom teacher while earning her English Language Development credential. Jessica then moved to Utah with her sister and worked as a Special Education Teacher and Special Education Director at Reagan Academy, just down the street from Merit, for 10 years. During that time, she met and married her husband, Josh and now has 3 amazing children; James, Caranean and Jackson. In 2016, Jessica had an opportunity to work with the Utah Board of Education through a grant from Utah State University as a Special Education Professional Development and Implementation Specialist. Here she trained teachers on co-teaching and other instructional practices all over the state of Utah. In 2018, she then began working at Merit Academy as the Special Education Director, desiring again a more focused effect on student growth and learning. In 2019, Jessica completed a master’s degree in Special Education Law and School Administration. In her free time, Jessica plays peek-a-boo with her youngest son, encourages her daughter’s talent in dance and learns martial arts from her oldest son. She also loves to swim, run, crochet, cross-stitch, play piano and cook just about anything!
