COLLEGE COURSES
Want to get your General Education Certificate or Associate's Degree by graduation or just take a few courses to save money on future tuition? Check out Merit Academy’s concurrent enrollment options below. We work with UVU and Southern Utah University to provide a variety of options to meet your needs. Concurrent Enrollment requires: Cumulative GPA of 3.0 for Academic Subjects and 2.0 for CTE courses.
If a student does not meet the GPA requirement or they are home-schooled and do not have an accredited transcript, they can participate if they have a composite ACT score of 22.
Students only need to be enrolled in one High School class at Merit school to take concurrent enrollment. classes. This could be any core or elective class. This will meet the cumulative GPA requirements.
General Education Certificate requires 30 credits (15 core credits and 15 elective credits). Each class is 3 credits so you need to take 10 classes. This give you a one-year degree in general studies.
Associates Degree requires 60 credits (30 core credits and 30 electives credits) Each class is 3 credits so you need to take 20 classes. This gives you a degree in general studies.
STEP 1: Register for one or both schools
(You must have a UVID or SUU ID to be able to register for classes.)

Each concurrent enrollment class is $5/credit or $15/class. Some classes include a book fee.

Each early college online (ECO) class is $75/credit or $225/class. Some classes include a book fee.
STEP 1: APPLY/REGISTER

How to Be Admitted to UVU

1. Go to https://www.uvu.edu/welcome/
2. Click on Concurrent Enrollment
3. Click on Step 1 : Apply
4. Follow the Continue to Participation form and Application for UVU
5. Fill out form for participation on concurrent enrollment
6. Verify email addresses (student and parents)
7. Fill out application (please use student email and phone number when applying)
8. NO application fee is required

After you submit your application it may take up to 48 hours business hours to be accepted to UVU. Once you are accepted, you will receive an email with your UV ID and instructions on how to register for classes. Please follow the instructions in that email.

How to Register for UVU Classes (currently open)
​
1. Log onto my.uvu.edu or www.uvu.edu/concurrent
2. Click on the Students dropdown list (top left under the home button)
3. Click on Registration and Planning
4. Click on Add or Drop Classes
5. Click on Add/Drop/Waitlist Classes
6. Under Terms Open for Registration choose Spring 2025 and then Continue
7. Under Register for Classes, there are 4 different tabs. The first tab is highlighted "Find Classes". Click on Enter CRNs.
8. At this point, just type in the first CRN that you want to do. If you want to take more than one class, click on add another CRN and then add the next class and so on.
9. When you have finished adding the CRNs you want, just click add to Summary.
10. Look at the summary and make sure that you have the classes you are interested in and if everything looks good, click on Submit.
If you don't hit submit, then you are NOT registered.

Early College Online (ECO) at Southern Utah University is a program that allows students to earn college credit while still in high school. These credits can count towards their general education requirements for 2 and 4-year degrees.

Get ahead: Take a few courses! Find classes that interest you. SUU courses are transferable to high schools and other colleges and universities around the world.
Complete a General Education (GE) Certificate of Proficiency: GE Certificate of Proficiency is your shortcut to completing general education requirements before leaving high school.
Requirements: Complete 30 credits in core and breadth content areas

Associate Degree (AS): Complete 60 credits for an Associates of Science degree from SUU. Complete classes required for the GE Certificate of Proficiency and an additional 30 credits of elective course or general ED classes.

How to apply for SUU Early College Online (ECO) classes

STEPS:
Apply for Early College Online
You are eligible for this Early College Online program if you are in a high school or an equivalent program. You must be of high school age to participate. It's FREE to apply to SUU! No application fees are charged for high school students.
Complete the ECO Application including submission of transcripts or other documents.
Activate your mySUU Portal from the email you will receive after your application review.
Send your transcripts securely to the ECO Team.
Registration for Early College Online
After admission, you'll get a welcome email with instructions for setting up your MySUU Portal. The email will also include details on registering for classes at our reduced ECO tuition rate.
How to Register for Classes:
- Go to suu.edu
- Click on mySUU
- Login with username and password
- Now you are on your student home page, Scroll to bottom and click on registration (high school)
- Click register for classes
- Click on term/ semester (ex. Fall 2025)
- Click enter CRN
- Type in CRN for each class
- Add to Summary
- Double check class on pop up box, click start date
- Click confirm
- Check summary to make sure you have the right classes, dates, etc. then click submit
- You are now registered.
Tuition & Payment for Early College Online

Course tuition is only $75 USD per credit hour for ECO students. Most ECO classes are 3 credits, making the total tuition per course $225 USD.

Tuition is due the first day of class. If tuition has not been paid in full within three weeks of that day, you may be dropped from the class. For more info on this, check out the Cashier's Office.

How to Apply for SUU concurrent enrollment:
- Go to https://www.suu.edu/concurrent/
- Fill out form for participation on concurrent enrollment
- Verify email addresses (student and parents)
- Fill out the application (please use student email and phone number when applying). UVU and SUU require a 2-Step Verification process. Students will need the phone used to apply to login into class each time. Please use student phone numbers to avoid any issues later.
- NO application fee is required

How to Register for SUU Classes
​
- Log into your mySUU portal.
- Once logged in, on the left-hand side of the screen, scroll down and select the "Registration" option under the “Banner” section.
- Register for your classes using the special CRN code provided by your high school's counseling department. These classes are available at the discounted rate of $5 per credit.

REGISTRATION HELP
If you get a "prerequisite error" this means that we do not have updated ACT scores for you.
Please go to the Merit website page https://www.meritprepacademy.org/transcripts to send them your transcript and ACT score to fulfill the prerequisite. (You can also access the transcript form in the Students main drop-down menu tab on the Merit homepage.)
When in the transcript form please put in the comments your name, birthdate, UVID number/SUU ID number and who to send transcripts. For UVU, the transcripts need to be sent to concurrentdocs@uvu.edu. For SUU, transcripts need to be sent to SUU Concurrent enrollment: concurrentenrollment@suu.edu or SUU Earliy College Online (ECO): earlycollegeonline@suu.edu.

CLASS TYPES
When taking any of the following types of classes, Merit strongly encourages students to have a UVU-Release Time in their Merit schedule to have time to take classes, study, or complete assignments.
FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES
We now offer Face to Face college classes. These classes are Math 1010 (Fall), Math 1050 (Spring), Digital Marketing (Fall and Spring), English 1010 (full year) and English 2010 (Spring). These classes are taught at Merit by the high school teachers (Mrs. Cosby-Johnson, Mrs. Christensen, and Mrs. Clawson). These are college classes taught with college level curriculum and expectations.
Face to Face CE classes—UVU
Taught by Merit teacher at Merit during school hours
Math 1010 (Fall) — Prerequisites required. Taught by Mrs. Cosby-Johnson (CJ)
Math 1050 (Spring) — Prerequisites required. Taught by Mrs. Cosby-Johnson (CJ)
English 1010 (Full Year) — Prerequisites required. Taught by Mrs. Clawson
English 2010 (Spring) — Prerequisites required. Taught by Mrs. Clawson
Digital Marketing CE (Fall/ Spring) — No prerequisites. Taught by Mrs. Christensen.
Digital marketing class is open to grades 9th-12th.
English 1010, Math 1010 and Math 1050 are open to 11th and 12th only. There are prerequisites for these classes. Must have an ACT score or test into English 1010, Math 1010 and Math 1050 to get college credit.
When signing up, students MUST sign up through UVU and Merit to get college and high school credit for these classes.

LIVESTREAM CLASSES

Livestream classes are college classes taught through MS teams on the computers. These classes are taught at SPECIFIC TIMES during the day. Course work done on Canvas. You will need to have a class period in your schedule to take these classes.

Live Interactive classes are broadcast to the classroom. These classes are taught at SPECIFIC TIMES. These are live classes broadcast to Merit that have microphones to interact with the professor and other students at various sites. Course work done on Canvas.

Live Interactive courses taught by a UVU professor and broadcast at the high school. Communicate with microphones during class, email or Canvas message outside of class.

ONLINE CLASSES

The UVU concurrent enrollment online classes are for 9th-12th grades. These classes are on Canvas and have all class materials available including class recordings. These classes are on MS Teams.

The SUU Concurrent Enrollment (Online) classes are online and are for students 9th-12th grades. These classes are on SUU Canvas and have all class materials available including class recordings.
The SUU Early College Online (ECO) classes are online and are for students 9th-12th grades. These classes are on SUU Canvas and have all class materials available including class recordings.These classes are the same as the concurrent enrollment classes except the price is higher and the credit is not automatically transferred to the high school. Students will need to send their SUU transcript to Meit to be added to the high school transcripts for high school credit.
Prerequisites: (both UVU and SUU)
English 1010: ACT score is 19+ in both English and Reading sections or Accuplacer score of 250+.
English 2010: ACT score is 29+ in both English and Reading sections or passing English 1010 with a C or higher
Math 1010: ACT score is 19+ in Math section or ALEKS score of 30+
Math 1030/ Math 1040: ACT score is 21+ in Math section or ALEKS score of 42+
Math 1050: ACT score is 23+ in Math section or ALEKS score of 46+ or pass Math 1010 with a C or better.
Philosophy 205G/ 2050: English 1010- pass with a C or better
