Assistant Director and Athletic Director at Merit Preparatory Academy
Amanda Kuhnz has worked in education since 2003 (since 2005 as a credentialed teacher) and in Administration with Merit since 2017. Her educational philosophy is twofold: 1) every student deserves a high-quality and challenging educational experience with the resources they need to succeed and 2) every student has the potential to improve and be great, developing the ability to contribute to society in a unique way. Her experiences playing college softball at Northwestern University laid the groundwork for her belief system: we can do anything we work hard to accomplish. She instills that in the developing youth of today by emphasizing hard work, positivity, resourcefulness, resilience, responsibility, and balance. She encourages students to be physically active and healthy by promoting athletics and extracurricular activities. Not only do such activities provide opportunities for social interaction, they are ways to develop leadership, problem-solving, and communicative skills. Lastly, her belief system includes the idea that we all have the ability to improve and become better individuals. Once we find the motivation for such improvement, the possibilities are limitless.
Amanda comes to us from California. She has educated youth at both the middle and high school levels. Before she earned her Administrative Credential in San Diego in 2017, she was a Physical Education and Health Science teacher. She has served as Department Chair for Physical Education, teacher liaison for Family Life Education Advisory Committees, Project Advisor for community service and fundraising events for athletics, and Head Varsity Softball Coach for many years for multiple schools. She has written various curricula programs for both athletics and Physical Education classes and in 2014 helped design a 1,000 square foot exercise facility at an International Baccalaureate school in San Diego.
