Music Instructor at Merit Preparatory Academy
I grew up making music with friends from before I can remember, and I’ve never stopped! In my upstate New York high school I participated in every musical group we had, from choir and musical theatre performances to wind ensemble, jazz band, and symphonic orchestra. After graduation, my craving to make more music led me to pursue a Bachelor’s in Music Education from the Crane School of Music, studying voice and piano concurrently. My wonderful wife and I completed our degrees there in the spring of 2012, after which we moved to Provo to begin graduate studies at BYU. There I studied choral and orchestral conducting, becoming a bona fide Master of Music in April 2015. While at BYU, I was privileged to conduct four different orchestras, including University Orchestra, University Strings, Chamber Orchestra, and Opera Ensemble. One of the incredibly enjoyable highlights of my career has been to conduct the BYU Opera Ensemble’s 2014 production of Donizetti’s great Italian opera “The Elixir of Love”.
My favorite genres of music to play and listen to include Irish traditional, jazz, and classical. When taking a break from school, you’ll often find me adventuring in Utah’s incomparable wilderness, on skis, a bike, a kayak, or my own two feet with a backpack in tow. I have a lifelong passion for the sport of Ultimate, I rarely miss watching a BYU football game, and am proud to say that I have, in fact, freed Hyrule Castle from Calamity Ganon on at least one occasion.
