On March 29th, 2019, the Merit Academy Symphonic Strings won Best in State in the Orchestra category at the Utah Charter School Music Festival. They performed “Themes from the Moldau” by Bedrich Smetana (arranged by Robert S. Frost) and “MacPherson’s Lament,” a beautiful Scottish folk tune arranged by Dean Marshall and Bob Phillips. Adjudicators at the festival praised the group’s sensitive, expressive playing and artistically mature performance. The Merit Academy Concert Strings also performed admirably in the festival and represented the school well. Preparations on the festival repertoire lasted over two months and included performances on the Spring Music concert earlier in March.
We are so proud of our students for all of their hard work and dedication.
